이피는 시카고미술대학(School of the Art Institute of Chicago)에서 BFA (2005), MFA (2007) 과정을 수료했으며 2008년 한국으로 귀국한 후 2011년까지 사찰에서 불모에게 전통 불화를 배우며 조수로 일했다. 강화플라스틱부터 불화의 금분까지 다양한 재료들을 이용해 회화 작업과 조각 설치를 병행하면서 그녀의 몸에 기생하고 있는 수많은 몸들(멸종한 몸, 미래의 몸, 감각으로 형상화된 타자의 몸)위한 제단을 만들어 왔다. 그녀의 제단은 한국, 일본, 미국 등지에서 열린 단체전과 17번의 개인전에 전시되었다. 현재 서울에서 활동하고 있다.
Fi Jae Lee, based in Seoul, Korea, received her BFA (2005) and MFA (2007) at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been practicing the technique of Korean traditional Buddhist paintings since 2008. Using various materials from reinforced plastic to Korean traditional gold pigment, she is making shrines for the bodies (the extinct bodies, the bodies of the future creatures, and the bodies that gained their shapes by my senses) that are parasitic in her body. Her paintings and sculptures have been introduced in many exhibition including seventeen solo shows, held in Korea, Japan, and the United States.
